PepsiCo Inc. has been watching the way you struggle with a 2-liter bottle. They know that it can be difficult to pour those first few drinks out of it. (Not literally, of course, but rather through consumer research.)
So the soft drink and snack giant is updating the bottle by making it easier to hold and use while not losing any functionality or using more PET.
"The original 2-liter had a circumference of 13.4 inches, while PepsiCo says the average hand is between 7 inches and 8.6 inches when grasping. Just glancing at that gulf demonstrates why 2-liters are so difficult to manage," FastCompany writes in a new online story.
"How you hold it, pour it, how to make the experience better from a usability and ergonomic standpoint," Mauro Porcini, senior vice president and chief design officer at PepsiCo, tells FastCompany. "That's the key anchor: We wanted to make the product more useful."
It's a great story with a lot of interesting background about design, materials and molding. Check it out.
