Lubrizol executive Rick Tolin has been honored by a cancer support group.
Tolin is president of Lubrizol Advanced Materials, a major producer of thermoplastic polyurethane. He was recognized at this year's BeautyCares DreamBall, an event held by the Look Good Feel Better Foundation.
Tolin is a longtime supporter of the organization and those who benefit from its programs, officials with Lubrizol in Wickliffe, Ohio said in a news release. This year's DreamBall was a virtual event.
Since its inception in 1989, Look Good Feel Better has helped more than 1 million women in the U.S. reclaim their sense of control, confidence and self-esteem while undergoing cancer treatments, officials said. The program is open to all women with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation or other forms of treatment.
Tolin has served on the board of the Personal Care Products Council for the last eight years. While on the board, he has increased Lubrizol's level of support for Look Good Feel Better.
Each year, the foundation recognizes one beauty industry supplier or related business as an honoree. Lubrizol is the first-ever raw ingredient supplier to be honored in the history of the event. Tolin was recognized alongside leaders from Christian Dior and Combe Inc., as well as cancer survivor advocates.
"To be recognized as an honoree by this organization is very humbling," Tolin said in the release. "I am so appreciative to have been able to participate and contribute to this noble cause."
"When I was first introduced to the concept of Look Good Feel Better, I could not stop thinking about how powerful of a gift this was to help people look and feel their best during such an important time in their cancer journey."
Tolin added that the charitable element of Look Good Feel Better "fits naturally into the core values of Lubrizol."
"We aim to engage with charitable projects where we can make a direct and immediate impact on those involved," he said. "Being able to play a small part in creating the ingredients that go into the beauty products that help people improve their self-esteem and quality of life is a beautiful thing."
Look Good Feel Better is a non-medical, brand-neutral public service program that teaches beauty techniques to people with cancer to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The program includes lessons on skin and nail care, cosmetics, wigs and turbans, accessories and styling, helping people with cancer to find some normalcy in a life that is by no means normal.
Thousands of volunteer beauty professionals support Look Good Feel Better. All are trained and certified by the Look Good Feel Better Foundation and the Professional Beauty Association at local, statewide, and national workshops. Other volunteer health care professionals and individuals also give their time to the program.
