Welcome to our first issue of August 2024.
You might recall our last Numbers That Matter Live, when PN's Bill Wood forecast turmoil for the economy. Well, judging by the recent news reports from around the globe, he was on to something. Watch the recording.
This week features our 2024 Workplace Safety Report, by Assistant Managing Editor Steve Toloken. One story details the painful death of Todd Shaffer, who was pinned in a thermoforming press at Encore Plastics and later was taken off of life support after a brief hospitalization. Steve examines a lawsuit filed by Shaffer's family and a government safety review, which provides an unusually detailed look at the events leading up to the death in Franklin County, Ohio.
Steve also covers the pushback from plastics firms against OSHA's proposal that would require employers to develop plans to control heat hazards in the workplace.
Coming up Tune in to all of our livestreams this month: Sustainable Plastics Live on Aug. 6; Plastics in Politics Live on Aug. 13; Polymer Points Live on Aug. 20; and Numbers That Matter Live on Aug. 27.
