The mold is the heart of the molding process and must be properly maintained to achieve desired life expectancy. With 60% - 70% of all mold maintenance being mold cleaning, we must find ways to improve the efficiency of mold cleaning without compromising the tool. Traditional manual cleaning methods are not only laborious (thus often postponed) extending machine downtime, but also prematurely wear out parting lines and shut-offs. Using dry ice as the cleaning media allows molders to clean molds, at operating temperatures, while still in the press. This presentation explains how the process works as well as industry case studies on the efficacy of cleaning molds with dry ice.
