North American demand for most commodity resins has been flat in recent months, but prices have been impacted by other factors including exports and feedstock prices, Senior Reporter Frank Esposito said in the November Polymer Points Live.
The impact has been mixed. PET and suspension PVC prices have seen drops. Polystyrene was up in October, then down in November. Polypropylene buyers saw higher prices in October, and may see more of the same in November. And polyethylene prices have been flat, despite expectations that they’d be down because of lower demand, although some outages have impacted supply in recent months, Esposito said.
In the livestream, he also talked about what changes are likely in November and December, plus discussion of engineering resins and recycled materials.
Our next Polymer Points Live is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16.
