New: Ineos declares force majeure for PP because of freezing temperatures in Texas
Polyethylene buyers were expecting lower prices in December but pricing settled flat for the month, thanks to strong exports. What can buyers expect in January, with an increase on the table and ethylene supplies possibly impacted by freezing temperatures on the Gulf Coast?
In the January Polymer Points Live — recording below — Frank Esposito took a deep look at the PE and polypropylene markets, which both settled flat in December but may be poised for changes in early 2024.
“This export situation with polyethylene is probably the new reality,” he said. “That’s not great if you’re a North American polyethylene buyer. … It could mean less price fluidity in the North American market, it’s just amazing.”
Esposito also recapped changes for PVC, polystyrene, PET, nylon and polycarbonate, and shared his thoughts on the outlook for those resins and post-consumer materials.
