It’s safe to say that the results of the 2024 presidential election could have a significant impact on the plastics industry. But in what ways?
In the August Plastics and Politics Live, Steve Toloken and Don Loepp talked about plastics issues and the election.
Recording below.
To start, we already know some things about Donald Trump, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s records on some plastics issues.
Focusing on the Democratic side, Toloken pointed out that as a senator, Harris was a sponsor of the original Break Free from Plastics Pollution Act. And as governor of Minnesota, Walz has signed legislation on extended producer responsibility and PFAS.
Other topics of the livestream included fracking, environmental justice and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Also, President Joe Biden released an 83-page plastics plan at the end of July — just days before he dropped out of the 2024 race. What was in that plan, and how much could be implemented without support from Congress?
The next Plastics in Politics Live is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10.
