Plastics policy issues are increasingly ending up in court, and in the July livestream we took an in-depth at three key cases. Recording below.
First up, California was in the spotlight, as Steve Toloken explained what we know about the long-simmering dispute between plastics trade groups and state Attorney General Rob Bonta into decades of industry claims about plastics recycling.
In recent weeks Bonta, and American Chemistry Council and the Plastics Industry Association have filed documents about the dispute and the impact that the trade groups say the lawsuit is having on their internal operations.
Next, Toloken covered the city of Baltimore’s lawsuit filed last month over single-use plastics pollution. The suit names Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo, two of the largest users of single-use packaging. But, surprisingly, it also named some local plastics processors.
Finally, Toloken covered fluoropolymers. While PFAS have already been in the news, the spotlight returned with The New York Times’ recent alarming headline: “Lawyers to Plastics Makers: Prepare for ‘Astronomical’ PFAS Lawsuits.”
