Single-use plastics are the target for more state bans and extended producer responsibility proposals. But while the debate is heating up in statehouses, when it comes to the Inflation Reduction Act, the big climate bill that Congress is working to send to President Joe Biden, the impact on plastic is barely room temperature.
In the August Plastics in Politics Live, Steve Toloken explains that plastics will likely benefit from some aspects of the climate bill, including incentives for clean energy, electric vehicles and energy efficiency, which all use a lot of plastics. But the final legislation it does not include resin taxes, which had been suggested early in the debate.
