Polypropylene bucked resin pricing trends again in August, but September could be another story.
The September Polymer Points Live, PN Senior Reporter Frank Esposito broke the news that North American PP resin buyers saw a 2 cent per pound increase in August. The increase will be shown Sept. 19 on the PN resin pricing chart.
PP buyers also saw higher prices in June and July.
Polyethylene and polystyrene prices were flat in August, while PVC and PET buyers saw 2 cent per pound decreases.
September is expected to see flat to downward trends for most resins, with potential price decreases for PP and PVC, Esposito said. The impact of Hurricane Francine on resin production was minimal.
Watch the recording below for more details on all the pricing news and Esposito’s expectations for the next several months.
Esposito and Editor Don Loepp also discussed the potential impact of extended producer responsibility and the United Nations plastics treaty on resin markets. For an in-depth look at that topic, register for PN Live: How the UN treaty could change the global plastics industry, set for 10 a.m. ET on Oct. 8.
