North American commodity resin markets have been volatile so far in 2025, with buyers already seeing a mix of price increases and decreases.
More changes are likely this month, senior reporter Frank Esposito said in the March Polymer Points editorial livestream. Recording below.
In February, polypropylene and PVC prices were up 4 cents per pound and 2 cents per pound, respectively, despite sluggish demand. Polyethylene prices were flat, even though suppliers had tried to get a 5-cent-per-pound increase, Esposito said.
He predicted a big price drop for PP in March, flat prices for PE and polystyrene, and potentially higher prices for PET and PVC.
The export market for PE is trending down slightly, indicating a potential economic slowdown. Esposito highlighted the impact of tariffs and economic uncertainty on resin prices and demand.
The next Polymer Points Live is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15.
