This letter was a response to Rhoda Miel's July 11 blog, "Counting straws makes you notice when they're not really needed."
Try drinking a glass of soda or tea or milk with ice in it as I do and wearing a mustache. You'll appreciate the straw.
Straws are not the problem. Measure the weight of all the straws a person uses in the course of a full year. Now, compare that to something else you use and discard.
Just figure a quick and easy way to take the lowly straw and turn it into something else useful. It's called recycling.
People are straining out gnats and swallowing camels over this plastic straw story.
I'm a plastic vacuum forming and injection molding designer and company owner. I've been in business making things from plastic for nearly 40 years.
It's time to worry about what is important.
