I've been a lifelong resident of Illinois and built my business here and employ many. We are a design engineering and plastic molding company and ship to 12 nations. I wasn't born yesterday, or the day before.
I've been offering $20,000 over the usual wage to get people. They are turning me down. Simply put, people don't want to work and they are lazy.
The Democrats said to the Republicans last year that the added $600 per week wouldn't cause people to want to remain lying home on their sofas. We all knew that was stupid and would fail. It did.
Try having your employees who have worked for you for over 10 years not speak to you for two months because they are pissed off over being required to return to work.
All we learned during 2020 and 2021 is that humans will take advantage of everything they can and stick a knife in your back if they get a chance.
"The great resignation?" I laugh.
People who last year were "essential, oh my God, gotta have ya" are now being treated like dung. They are beyond tired of being told during 2020 that they are "essential" and now unless they get a drug poured into their body they are worthless pieces of crap. What happened in eight months' time?
They were once our heroes and our "essentials" and we even made plastic face shields for them and N95 masks and donated to make sure they had PPE. We put up signs in our front yards telling them we loved them.
Not now. Now we trod them under our feet like the used COVID-19-laced masks that litter our streets and gutters.
