Resin distributor M. Holland Co. is now distributing Purell-brand specialty health care resins from LyondellBasell Industries.
In a news release, officials with M. Holland in Northbrook, Ill., said that the partnership "will boost medical packaging manufacturers' access to medical-grade resins and help ensure regulatory confidence for OEMs."
They added that the Purell line "is one of the most trusted and recognized resins" in the healthcare market. LyondellBasell makes the materials in Illinois, M. Holland said, offering regionalized supply chain security for medical packaging manufacturers and OEMs amid global disruption and shortages.
Purell resins offer protection against most chemicals and a full range of stiffness and mechanical resistance. Officials said the materials are ideal for medical films and blow-fill-seal applications such as ampules and IV bottles, as well as other healthcare applications.
"Medical regulations are changing, demands are increasing, and opportunities for innovation continue to arise," said Josh Blackmore, global health care manager at M. Holland.
"We have trust built from our long-standing relationship with LyondellBasell and are eager to offer Purell products to our clients and help them create safe medical devices and packaging," he added.
Palmer Giddings, LyondellBasell polyolefins Americas vice president, said that demand in healthcare continues to grow amid supply chain disruptions, evolving regulatory requirements and residual healthcare system strain caused by COVID-19.
"Through M. Holland's distribution network, our Purell products will deliver a readily available and necessary solution to health care and pharmaceutical packaging manufacturers," he added.
M. Holland is one of North America's largest resin distributors, selling more than $1 billion in materials to more than 4,000 customers annually.
LyondellBasell is a major global supplier of PE and PP resins and also ranks as North America's largest plastics compounder. The firm posted sales of $46.2 billion in 2021.
