Workers at a Phillips-Medisize Corp. plant in Wisconsin can breathe a sigh of relief.
The medical injection molder said in July that it would be permanently lay off 96 employees — and possibly another 225 — at its St. Croix Meadows site in Hudson, Wis., because of a sudden and significant drop in demand from a major customer. The job cuts were to start in October.
But on Sept. 20, the firm sent a letter to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development rescinding that decision.
"Those conditions have not and are now not reasonably likely to come to pass," Phillips-Medisize officials said.
Phillips-Medisize was No. 13 in the most recent Plastics News ranking of North American injection molders with $530 million in annual sales in the region.
