Trelleborg to add biopharmaceutical capacity in Massachusetts

The first phase of a three-part expansion at Trelleborg AB's BioPharma Center of Excellence in Northborough, Mass., is set to be operational by 2023.

The 25,000-square-foot expansion for Minnesota-based Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical will meet growing demand for silicone tubing and hose, assemblies and other biopharmaceutical products, the firm said in an Aug. 15 statement.

Trelleborg, with global offices in Sweden, said it is investing "several million" dollars in the facility in a Boston suburb.

"The site will expand our manufacturing capacities of Class 7 and 8 clean rooms ... to meet the market's growing demand for biopharmaceutical applications," said Linda Muroski, president of Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical.

The expansion, which is expected to create 50 jobs, follows an increase in the facility's milling and extrusion capabilities that took place earlier this year.

"The investment is a key milestone in our global biopharmaceutical strategy and will enable us to expand our offerings to existing and new customers in the industry," Muroski said. "Our customers need a global partner for growth, and we are committed to being that partner."

Florance Veronelli, global business development lead for biopharmaceutical, said the expansion will enable "enhanced flexible manufacturing solutions."

"As a full-service provider to the biopharmaceutical industry, our value-added offering will include assembly, kitting, contract manufacturing, packaging, validation, supply chain management and more," Veronelli said.

Trelleborg supplies its PharmaTube platinum silicone tubing for single- and multi-use pharmaceutical applications.

Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical also offers O-rings, seals, bearings and composite products.
