Poly-Tek Inc., a rubber and plastics injection molder in San Leandro, Calif., has purchased Master Plastics Inc., an injection molder about an hour away in Vacaville, Calif.
The Aug. 1 acquisition brings together two family-owned companies with synergies that make it "a great deal … [that] should be good for both parties," Ravi Merchandavi, Master Plastics' vice president of business development, said by phone Aug. 26.
Master Plastics has 22 presses with clamping forces of 28 to 1,000 tons, making products for the information technology, industrial, medical device, construction, packaging and consumer goods markets. The company also does structural foam molding and has a 1,200-square-foot, Class 100,000 clean room in its 64,000-square-foot plant.
Merchandavi, who is joining Poly-Tek, said he expects former Master Plastics owner Kurt Hashemian to remain awhile "to ensure a smooth transition." Hashemian launched the company more than 30 years ago.
Poly-Tek, founded in 1963, is now in its third generation of family ownership. The company serves the automotive, recycling, construction and agriculture markets.
"This is a great opportunity," Merchandavi added. "We have lots of good ideas, and we can expand into new areas and have some fun."
Florence, Mass.-based Molding Business Services Inc., dba MBS Advisors, represented Poly-Tek in the transaction.
