Seattle-based on-demand manufacturer Quickparts.com Inc. has acquired Clinton, Mich.-based Xcentric Mold and Engineering Inc. with plans to strengthen its capabilities as part of a growth strategy.
Founded in 1996, Xcentric offers rapid prototyping, injection molding, computer numerically controlled machining and other related services with 100 employees at two facilities covering 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
Terms of the deal between Xcentric and Quickparts' owner, Trilantic Capital Management LP, were not disclosed.
The acquisition complements Quickparts' current manufacturing offerings and supports its continued growth by improving its U.S.-based, in-house production for customers.
Quickparts serves the aerospace and defense, architecture, automotive, autonomous vehicles, consumer products, medical and other industries, overlapping with Xcentric in many markets.
Xcentric has seen continued growth across industries, company officials said last year when they announced a plan to expand capacity by 40 percent at the manufacturing plant in Shelby Township near the headquarters.
The 2021 expansion was undertaken to meet demand for rapid prototyping, which shortens the production cycle, and low- to mid-volume injection molding in quantities of 25 to 250,000 components.
Xcentric will expand Quickparts' capabilities and expertise to deliver injection molding, CNC machining and other services to thousands of customers across the globe, according to Quickparts CEO Ziad Abou.
"As a combined company, we will offer an in-house, end-to-end solution from first prototype to short-run production. This acquisition is an important step as we continuously strive to advance Quickparts' capabilities. With Xcentric, we will be able to offer a complete life cycle solution that will be executed with even greater speed and certainty," Abou said in a news release.
Abou had previously partnered with Trilantic, a New York-based firm, to acquire the assets of the on-demand business of 3D Systems Corp. to create Quickparts. In North America, Trilantic manages six private equity fund families with capital commitments of $9.9 billion.
Quickparts is the right company to support the continued growth of Xcentric's capabilities, according to Xcentric CEO Matt McIntosh.
