Munich, Germany — KraussMaffei has updated RimStar, its small entry-level metering machine that can be customized to users' needs.
The RimStar Smart is built on castors, and has a 4.8-meter-square footprint. The machine is controlled via a 30 centimeter glass touchscreen, with an ancillary 10 centimeter screen for the mixing head. This features a shot time countdown.
There is an optional outrigger, whose length can be altered; it can also swivel. The outrigger can be positioned either in front of or to the side of the machine.
The machine can be used with a combination of KraussMaffei's mix heads, tanks and pumps. In terms of process control, the company said it can be fitted with a closed loop output control system, RFID interface for mold recognition, and a smart interface connects the machine with plant technology and automation
KraussMaffei said the machine was launched in response to industry demands for a smaller, flexible and less expensive machine. The redesign was completed in under six months, it added.
Although the overall options and specifications are limited, KM suggests that it could be added to a fully automated line, as well as used for manual dispensing.
The machine is being made in Germany, and aimed at the global PU market. It already has CE certification, and the company said that other certifications for the North American market will follow soon, covering pressure vessels, electric or hydraulic equipment.
