Wheeling, Ill. — Slide Products Inc. says it is the first aerosol manufacturer in the plastics industry to offer a hazardous aerosol return service.
The Wheeling-based company said in a news release that its Slide Hazardous Aerosol Return Program (SHARP) can help molders reduce hazardous waste disposal costs, keep hazardous materials out of the waste stream and protect ground water.
To participate, manufacturers pay the return shipping on the Slide-labeled used aerosol cans and Slide Products provides the proper disposal for free.
Founded in 1953, Slide Products Inc. manufactures mold releases, lubricants, cleaners, rust preventives and more.
The SHARP service is part of an effort to properly manage the hazardous waste the company generates and reduce its impact on the environment while helping molders eliminate the cost and hassle of disposing of Slide aerosols, according to President Michael Muth.
"What sets Slide apart in the plastics industry is our commitment to sustainability," Muth said in the release. "For example, any remnant chemical waste we produce is collected, incinerated and turned into energy sold back to the power company."
This decreases the load placed on landfills and helps prevent dangerous materials from polluting the environment, Muth added.
"By getting molders involved in SHARP, we can go beyond these efforts and reduce our impact on the environment even more," he said.
