Wilmington Machinery touted its structural foam or gas-assisted molding machines for making pallets and collapsible shipping crates — major users of recycled plastics — at K 2019.
The Lumina Plastic Pallet System can operate with 100 percent recycled or co-mingled resin using either process to make the heavy-wall products. The system uses an “L” shape layout and clamping system to save on floor space.
The Lumina Plastic Pallet System is available to produce any size of pallet, at a rate of 150,000 to 800,000 pallets per year from a single machine, according to the company from Wilmington, NC.
Wilmington Machinery builds equipment to meet specific customer needs. For example, within the past year, the company has built and installed two new vertical presses, installed a second complete plastic pallet molding system and reengineered the MP800 structural injection molding machine and Series III rotary blow molding machine lines.
Recently, Wilmington Machinery built and installed two vertical structural foam presses for a customer looking for a machine that was a better option than a horizontal press. The customer wanted advantages of a vertical machine, such ss ease of mold setup, reduced mold costs and reduced floor space. Each of the new machines has a 125-pound shot capacity. They accept one to six molds mounted and produce one to 20 parts on each cycle.
The company delivered a second Pallateer pallet system for system to a European customer for molding pallets measuring 4 feet by 3.7 feet. The big press has a static capacity of 10,000 pounds, a dynamic capacity of 5,500 pounds and a racking capacity of more than 3,000 pounds.
Wilmington Machinery also reengineered the MP800 injection unit to incorporate a first-in, first-out reciprocating screw with an inline accumulator. Direct gas injection into the extruder barrel provides for large-part, thin-wall structural foam molding.
In blow molding news, the company’s redesigned Series III B Rotary Blow Molder to reduce cost and delivery times and use much more standard commercial componentry that the earlier version.
