Wilmington, N.C. — Wilmington Machinery Inc. says its new MSBW60-DC can handle two significantly different capacity bottles at rates up to 600 bottles per minute to match a filling line speed.
The dual rotary blow molding machine has common extrusion, diehead and trimming components and is capable of producing small bottles in sizes of 1-10 ounces for single serve drinks, personal care, chemical products and more.
The machine features wheels that are both 60-station, all-electric, single- or dual-cavity to produce the required rate without a mold change. This reduces setup time from one bottle size to another by as much as 75 percent, according to the company.
Other features include quick disconnects for electrical, water and pneumatic services, which Wilmington says reduces wheel setup time to minutes rather than hours; faster trimmer setup; and the ability to perform preventative maintenance on a wheel while it is out of production.
In addition, the machine has a unique rail system that Wilmington says guides one of the two wheels out from the molding system and then guides the other wheel into the molding position.
The MSBW60-DC is available in several configurations to meet needs for clamping force, bottle size, single or dual parison, one to six layers, and radial mold positioning.
The dual-wheels machine and two sets of molds costs about 15-20 percent more than the single wheel with two sets of molds.
If volume requirements increase, either wheel can be retrofitted with extrusion and trimming equipment, which reduces the investment needed for a second production line.
