AGC Chemicals Americas Inc. is expanding its manufacturing site in Thorndale, Pa.
The expansion will increase the site's manufacturing, quality control lab and office space areas by 50 percent, AGCCA officials in Exton, Pa., said in a Jan. 10 news release. The multiuse facility will be configured to meet the growing needs of current business and to accommodate future production increases, they added.
Last year, AGC Japan established its Global Compounds business unit in Exton. Parent firm AGC designated the Thorndale plant for expansion and execution of its plan because of its strong technical capabilities in compounding fluoropolymer resins and because of its large presence in transportation, aerospace, energy, industrial, semiconductors and coatings.
Construction of the expansion began in December. It's expected to be completed in July 2023.
"Local government supports this expansion because it will utilize regional and local construction resources," Senior Director of Manufacturing Technology and Operations Michael Lim said in the release. "This expanded presence demonstrates our continued investment in the local community."
AGCCA makes, markets and sells fluoroproducts including fluoropolymer resins, fluorinated compounds and fluoroelastomers. Other products made by the firm include polyols for polyurethanes, ETFE film and greenhouse films.
AGCCA is a wholly owned unit of AGC Inc., a $14.1 billion multinational corporation based in Tokyo. AGC ranks as one of the world's largest manufacturers of glass, electronic displays and chemical products.
