Derek Moeller, founder and CEO of CognitionWorks and president of Surain Industries, expects these artificial intelligence trends to take hold in the plastics and other industries.
What to expect as AI advances
"We have accepted the idea that knowledge walks out the door for too long. That's very damaging to companies because it means rather than being an asset of the company, knowledge is something transient."
"You will be able to have it in a meeting and turn to it and ask, 'Hey what was the deal with that extrusion line that had the low pressure last week? What was the cause of that?' It'll look it up for you and within seconds say this is what happened and here's what we did about it."
"Fertility rates are dropping. We are at or near the peak population in most of the continents of the world. This means that as time goes by, there's going to be fewer and fewer new people coming into the industry."
"In many ways, it's just as or perhaps more advantageous to have knowledge about what to do and how to do it than raw data alone. Companies able to capitalize on that knowledge are going to be the ones pulling ahead. They're going to be the ones starting to dominate their industry because they have better knowledge, more permanent knowledge, and they're thinking about the ways that they manage knowledge instead of letting it happen by accident."
