An airplane window maker is investing $2 million at one site and acquiring a second location.
Lee Aerospace, of Wichita, Kan., acquired Llamas Plastics Inc. of Sylmar, Calif., a move that "will help diversify our product line and enable us to add more capacity in the aerospace transparency market," the company said.
Along with the purchase, Lee Aerospace expects to spend $2 million in Wichita, half for property improvements and half for new machinery, according to a local news report in the Wichita Business Journal.
Llamas Plastics began 45 years ago by Oswaldo Llamas, an aerospace engineer who started in transparency design and development in 1961, the company's website said.
The company makes aircraft windshields, canopies, cabin windows and lens used on wingtips. Customers include the military, defense contractors and other companies including aircraft makers Boeing and Embraer. Blue Origin, the space exploration company founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, also is listed as a customer on the Llamas website.
