In a deal between two global blow molders of plastic packaging, Austria Alpla-werke Alwin Lehner Gmbh & Co. KG has acquired a PET preform injection molding plant in India from Amcor Ltd.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The plant in Alandi employs 50 people and serves customers including Coca-Cola Co. and Indian dairy co-op Amul.
Hard, Austria-based Alpla announced the deal on Sept. 30, and noted that it took effect on Sept. 28.
Vagish Dixit, managing director for Alpla in India, said in a news release: "The newly acquired facility near Pune will primarily help us to better serve the market in the western region of India and further expand existing partnerships with customers such as Coca-Cola."
The operation is now known as Alpla Pune, and is the company's ninth location in India, and the second in the west of the country.
In North America, Amcor Rigid Plastics in Ann Arbor, Mich., is the No. 1 blow molder, according to the most recent Plastics News ranking, and Alpla Inc. of McDonough, Ga., is No. 5.
