Ametek Westchester Plastics is closing a toll compounding plant in Wapakoneta, Ohio, in a move that will eliminate 78 jobs.
Most of those cuts will be made by mid-April, company officials said in a Jan. 23 WARN Act filing made with the state of Ohio.
As of 2012, the 250,000-square-foot Wapakoneta plant operated five twin-screw extrusion lines and three Farrel continuous mixers. The plant opened in 1959, according to the Ametek Westchester website.
Ametek Westchester is a unit of industrial conglomerate Ametek Inc. of Berwyn, Pa. The unit also operates a toll compounding plant in Nesquehoning, Pa.
On its website, Ametek Westchester is described as a toll compounder of engineering resins, alloys, blends, reactive modifiers and other thermoplastic materials. The business was founded in Westchester County, N.Y., in 1949 and was acquired by Ametek in 1968.
The Westchester location closed in 1975 when the Nesquehoning site opened.
