Arkema Inc. has become a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the company has announced.
A global, CEO-led organization of more than 200 leading businesses from all business sectors and all economies, the WBCSD aims to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world.
Through innovation and collaboration, the goal is ultimately to make sustainable businesses more successful.
Arkema will contribute through its expertise in specialty materials, developing innovative solutions and aligning its corporate activities with the network’s aim to address four major issues of today and tomorrow: growing urbanization, scarcity of resources, climate change and the challenge of new technologies.
“In a world faced with economic, environmental and social challenges, our mission as an industrial company is to use our expertise in materials science to facilitate the transition to a sustainable world. Joining the WBCSD is an important step,” said Thierry Le Hénaff, chairman and CEO at Arkema. “Together with other WBCSD partners, we will be able to accelerate this transition and provide innovative solutions that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations.”
Arkema aims to become purely a player in Specialty Materials by 2024. The company recently completed the sale of its functional polyolefins business to SK Global Chemical. Building on its expertise in materials science, the company offers a portfolio of technologies to address the ever-growing demand for new and sustainable materials and has developed technological solutions to meet the challenges of, among other things, new energies, access to water, recycling, urbanization and mobility.
