Arlin Manufacturing Co. Inc. has signed a letter of intent to purchase one of Toray Plastics (America) Inc.'s film plants, effective Dec. 31.
Arlin Vice President Steve Mitchell said the 35,000-square-foot plant in North Kingstown, R.I., has two production lines for cast and oriented polypropylene film. It will continue operating as part of Arlin's Trico Specialty Films unit, which is based in North Kingstown. He declined to say how many people are employed at the Toray facility.
Mitchell said he's looking forward to gaining the plant.
"It's a great opportunity that will allow us to increase our capacity and our ability to provide custom plastic films to our customer base," he said in a Sept. 15 phone interview.
Trico has estimated annual sales of $5 million and about 15 employees. It makes PP and polyethylene films for markets including packaging, medical/pharmaceutical, electrical/electronics, labels, signs and automotive. Arlin, a film extruder and converter in Lowell, Mass., acquired Trico in 2016.
