Asahi Kasei Asaclean Americas Inc. is commercializing Asaclean Plus, a high-performance concentrate-grade purging compound.
The new material "fills a hole in our product line" while offering cost savings, Senior Marketing Manager Tom Hanvey said in an interview with Plastics News. It will be available in June.
Asaclean Plus is a heat-activated concentrate ideal for hot runners and low flow areas and has extremely effective compatibility with all resins, officials with the Parsippany, N.J.-based firm said. It's also an excellent cleaner with low-residue formula and its purging power can be tailored using a concentrate ration based on individual applications, they added.
In addition, officials said Asaclean Plus leads to significant savings on shipping and storage and excels in injection molding, extrusion and blow molding.
"We were trying to find a way to keep the same purging level but make it more simple," Vice President Phani Nagaraj said. "[Asaclean Plus] can be mixed in with the production resin, so you're not paying for a carrier resin."
Hanvey, a PN Rising Star in 2020, added that the firm "is always looking at product development to bring value solutions to our customers."
Asahi Kasei Asaclean Americas made PN's Best Places to Work list for the seventh consecutive time in 2021. The firm, which makes Asaclean-brand purging compounds, changed its name from Sun Plastics Inc. in July. It's been a unit of Japanese conglomerate Asahi Kasei Group for almost 25 years, serving injection molders and extruders across North and South America.
