Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio-based Associated Materials LLC will lay off about 190 employees as it moves some production from its headquarters' site to other facilities in more active markets.
Mark Dickinson, vice president of human resources, notified Ohio's Rapid Response and Dislocated Worker Program that "as a result of optimizing our U.S. windows manufacturing operations," the workforce at the so-called central facility would be reduced.
"As part of the company's long-term plan, it is concentrating windows production in the U.S. to locations strategically aligned to growth opportunities in the market and where it can continue to service existing customers," Dickinson said in the March 21 notice filed in accordance with the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
Associated Materials will eliminate positions related to window manufacturing operations with exceptions for production of specialty windows and patio doors.
"Associated Materials remains committed to its central facility as part of the company's headquarters with manufacturing, warehousing, and expanded engineering and development capacity," Dickinson's letter says.
In addition to continuing to produce some doors and windows, the central facility will be transformed "into a windows innovation hub focused on developing its most innovative products," the company said in an emailed statement.
In the meantime, Associated Materials is committed to supporting those affected by this transition. The job losses are expected to be permanent and will occur on May 20 or within 14 days of that date.
Eligible employees will receive severance and help job searching. They also will have the opportunity to apply for different roles within the company.
