Austrian toolmaker Haidlmair GmbH has parlayed its FDU technology into a new hot runner company called FDU Hotrunner GmbH.
The managing director of Frankenthal, Germany-based FDU Hotrunner is Andreas Kissler, who began at Haidlmair in 2017 after working for a hot runner supplier for many years.
Haidlmair introduced flat die unit technology at K 2016 and has been using it on its own injection molds. FDU is a long, slender gate that the company claims reduces shear and optimizes heat, energy consumption and injection pressure, plus cuts cycle times by up to 25 percent. Traditional injection molds use round gates.
FDU began as a research project developed with the know-how of Haidlmair, based in Nussbaum, Austria. The company has continuously developed the injection gate technology ever since. Now the hot runner system is now available for tools built by other companies.
