Taiwanese automotive supplier Minth Group Co. Ltd. has expanded into Canada with a C$300 million (US$211.9 million) investment to establish a manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario.
The 1 million-square-foot, multi-building site will create 1,099 jobs in the area, producing components for both internal combustion engine and electric vehicles, such as metal EV battery housing units and plastic exterior parts including bumpers, grilles and tailgates, an April 3 news release by Invest Ontario, said.
"We have a very stable customer base," William Chin, chief strategy officer at Minth Group, said during a news conference at the new, under-construction facility in Windsor. "None of [our top seven] customers are over 12 percent of our revenue … we want to be close to our customers and Windsor is definitely that location."
The company will build the facilities in two phases on about 54 acres near Windsor International Airport, according to a report by the Windsor Star. It expects the first plant to be complete by September, with production to begin by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
"Especially with our Canadian roots, we are very excited to announce this investment, and we look forward to the strong support of the local community to help us produce a highly competitive and sustainable operation for the foreseeable future," Chin said in the release.
"This project will build additional domestic manufacturing capacity and provide automakers with more diversified sourcing options," the release said. "It will enhance Ontario's supply chain resilience and reinforce its leadership in auto manufacturing."
"This marks a significant milestone for Minth Group as we strengthen our footprint in North America and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the global transition to next-generation mobility," Minth Group added in its April 5 news release. "Minth is proud to bring our global expertise, green innovations, and high-performance solutions to the heart of Canada's EV supply chain."
"Our new Windsor facility will play a key role in producing aluminum, steel and plastic components for electric and hybrid vehicle structures," the release added.
Headquartered in Taipei City, Taiwan, Minth Group manufactures exterior and structural automotive parts with more than 25,000 employees and 77 facilities across 14 countries in Asia, Europe, and North America, including an injection molding plant in Tennessee. It supplies parts to more than 70 automotive brands.
