Avient Corp. will showcase new ballistic-resistant panels at the upcoming JEC World 2024 trade show in Paris.
Polystrand ThermoBallistic-brand ballistic-resistant composite panels are compression molded panels made with e-glass and thermoplastic resin systems that offer "a cost-competitive alternative" to ballistic-resistant materials made with other fibers or thermoset resins, officials with Avon Lake, Ohio-based Avient said in a news release.
The panels provide structural bullet-resistant reinforcement to meet UL 752 Level 3 ballistic rating for interior and exterior architectural surfaces and components at a lighter weight than traditional panel materials, they added.
Also at the event — held March 5-7 — Avient will highlight its full range of thermoplastic and thermoset composites and engineered fiber solutions, including Dyneema, which the firm markets as "the world's strongest fiber." JEC is the leading global trade show for composite materials and their applications.
Avient officials said their materials portfolio offers high strength, weight reduction and corrosion resistance across many industries and markets. They added its composites are lightweight alternatives to metal and other materials, enabling sustainability initiatives such as material reduction and fuel economy improvements in many end products.
Avient is one of North America's largest producers of compounds, concentrates, composites and protective fibers. The firm posted sales of $3.1 billion in 2023.
