Axiom Engineered Systems LLC, a subsidiary of Aurora, Ontario-based Axiom Group, is expanding into the U.S. with a new Michigan location.
Axiom is initially investing $13.3 million at the site, to bring "the plant online while our leadership team focuses on the next phase of expansion," Maxwell Preston, communications manager for Axiom Group, told Plastics News in an emailed statement.
The company will take over an existing 123,000-square-foot facility in Capac, Mich., Preston said.
Expected to be operational in early 2023, "the current location has the capability to double its size in terms of both sales and employment within the next three years," he added. "We will share further details as we outfit the facility throughout 2022."
The project is expected to create more than 200 jobs, a May 31 news release said.
Axiom usually supplies U.S. customers from its production facilities in Ontario and Mexico.
"An influx of recent contracts requires the company to increase production capacity," the release said. "By securing its first U.S. plastic injection molding facility, Axiom will be able to successfully supply its new and existing contracts."
The new facility will house injection molding, warehousing, distribution, and administration, it said. Axiom has plans for three additional U.S. facilities.
"The Capac facility has already secured more than $50 million in new business and will begin operations within an 8-month timeframe," President and CEO Perry Rizzo said in the release.
