Balcan Innovations, based in Montreal, is expanding its capacity and market growth by investing in a new Windmöller & Hölscher printing press and tuber.
The company already has multiple Windmöller & Hölscher printing presses at its Terrebonne facility. The newest machine, a 10-color Miraflex II became operational in February 2025 is expected to increase printing capabilities by 40 percent.
"This latest round of investments reflects our long-term vision of continued growth and our unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality products and service to our customers," said Chief Commercial Officer Michelle Wilson in a news release.
In Balcan's Pleasant Prairie, Wis., facility there will be a new Polytex to increase FFS tubing capacity by 50 percent. The machinery will be operational by May 2025. The Polytex will support the company's redundant manufacturing in the U.S and Canada.
"With the addition of the Polytex in Wisconsin, Balcan Packaging and Plastixx will now have duplicate extrusion, printing, and tubing capabilities with the same cutting-edge W&H machinery across multiple plants," Wilson said in a news release.
In 2021, Balcan acquired a manufacturing plant in Wisconsin, making a $13 million deal for the 215,000-square-foot facility in Pleasant Prairie. The company also acquired two other plastics focused businesses in Canada the same year, Nelmar Group, including Nelmar Security Packaging Systems Inc., Plastixx Extrusion Technologies Inc. and Plastixx FFS Technologies Inc. and Covertech Fabricating Inc.
Balcan is No. 69 in Plastics News' ranking of North American film and sheet makers with an estimated $100 million in sales.
