Las Vegas — Sheboygan Falls, Wis.-based Bemis Manufacturing Co. developed a universally fitting toilet seat for both standard round and elongated toilet bowls.
Made from polypropylene, the aptly named Universal Fit is the first traditional toilet seat designed to fit both bowls.
Universal Fit features Bemis' patented so-called Stay·Tite Seat Fastening System, which allows the toilet seat to stay secure to the bowl without shifting or wiggling, according to Bemis Marketing Coordinator Riley Jahnke.
"It's a simple concept but a lot of engineering went into the design of the hinge and seat," Jahnke said at IBS 2025. "It looks stylish. It's quick and easy to install. The lid closes slowly, and it's made in the U.S."
Founded in 1901, Bemis is a family-owned manufacturer of toilet seats and other home products distributed under the brand names Bemis, Mayfair by Bemis and Bio Bidet through retail and wholesale channels.
With Universal Fit, plumbers and installers can make sure they have the right size toilet seat, which will save time and money. They won't have to leave the job site, buy a seat, return to finish the job, and then fall behind on other work.
The new toilet seat also benefits wholesalers, who will only need to manage one model instead of two.
"It's a big win when you can bring a product to market that solves a problem for both wholesalers and installers. Universal Fit means only one model for installers to keep on their truck for last-minute requests or for the wholesaler to inventory when space is limited," said Lisa Burns, Bemis market and product development manager.
Universal Fit was one of 15 products to receive a best-product award at the 2025 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas (KBIS 2025) from Feb. 25-27.
The awards for stand-out products were given by home experts at Reviewed.com.
The reviewers said the Universal Fit toilet seat "helps solve confusion in the aisle for consumers and inventory issues for contractors and plumbers. Not only does its gentle shape fit any toilet, its fasteners can slide to adjust to a more forward or rear positioning."
Bemis also has a new app for bidet users to customize the setting via their smartphone.
The Bemis Living App activates settings for water temperature, pressure, nozzle position, wash duration, and more with the push of a button.
"Most bidets have a remote and typically you select a wash. Then, the next person who comes along gets your settings," Bemis spokesman Les Petch said at IBS 2025. "This app allows you to create personalized settings, not just individual positions or temperatures but durations and you can stack settings for a wash followed by a dryer."
Petch added, "When you sit down on the seat, it recognizes someone sat down, it activates the app and then you press one button to select the presets. The app really expands the flexibility of the seat."
