Berlin Packaging said it hired William J. Hayes as president and CEO.
Hayes, who also will join the board, will take over no later than July 13 at Berlin, a Chicago-based company that supplies glass, plastic and metal containers. He is president and CEO of BrandSafway, a construction and civil engineering company.
Andrew Berlin left late last year as Berlin's CEO after holding the position since 1988.
Hayes, 60, grew Kennesaw, Ga.-based BrandSafway from $1 billion in North American revenue to a $5 billion global business with 38,000 employees in 2020, Berlin said in a statement.
"Bill is a true leader with a proven track record of strong execution and extraordinary results," Michael Grebe, executive chairman of Berlin Packaging, said in the statement.
Berlin is owned by New York-based private-equity firm Oak Hill Capital Partners and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.
Berlin Packaging ranked 38th on Crain's most recent list of Chicago area's biggest privately held companies, with Crain's estimating its 2019 revenue of $1.63 billion.
