Workers at a Berry Global Group Inc. caps and closures plant in the England are signaling they will strike because of a wage dispute.
More than 100 workers at Berry's facility in Norwich, members of the Unite union, are rejecting the idea of a 3.5 percent raise when inflation is up by 6.1 percent, the union said May 17.
"Berry is a profitable company and there is no reason why it should not be offering its workers a pay rise that reflects the cost of living. The current offer is unacceptable and our members have rightly rejected it," Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said in a statement.
Berry could not immediately be reached for comment May 17.
Unite said engineers, setters, maintenance and machine operators will walk off the job from May 19-21, May 28-30 and June 1-2. "Further industrial action will be scheduled if the dispute is not resolved," the union said in the statement.
The union claims the strike will halt production. The facility makes caps and lids for the cleaning, personal hygiene, medicinal, food and drink markets, Unite said.
