Clarkston, Mich.-based Chase Plastic Services recognizes its employees as its No. 1 asset, according to its Best Places to Work survey.
The company, a stocking distributor that offers more than 20,000 varieties of specialty, engineering and commodity thermoplastics, promotes from within and offers mentoring, job shadowing and leadership workshops for training and development. The Chase Plastic team likes to eat: There are many potlucks, chili cook-offs, food trucks, manager-cooked breakfast bar, employee appreciation cookouts.
There's a beer cart on Fridays — with some safety stipulations in place. "We toast, laugh and let the fast-paced week slide away into the weekend," the Best Places questionnaire stated. Massage therapists are also scheduled for Fridays.
Twice in the last year, Chase Plastic paid for all employees to take their spouses or significant others to a nice dinner, called "Love Meals."
Founded in 1992 by Kevin and Carole Chase, the company has a milestone anniversary program with a gift for anniversaries and monthly birthday celebrations. Team member awards include the Mary Mier, Outstanding Achievement, Rainmaker, and Clarkston awards. Awards are publicly announced, and recipients are given monetary honors with plaques.
The company has 78 people in the Clarkston office and 138 employees total.
"We strive to make [the employees'] workplace a place they enjoy coming to every day and are constantly thinking of new ways to keep them engaged while nurturing our culture and adhering to our core values," the company said in its survey. "Our culture fosters open and honest communication and an environment of respect, support, teamwork and commitment to excellence."
