The culture at Charlton, Mass.-based MTD Micro Molding revolves around the employees as a team.
Bonding activities such as field trips and celebratory meals are commonplace. There are golf tournament fundraisers, baseball games in the summer, curling tournaments at the local club, escape room challenges, St. Patrick's Day breakfasts with green pancakes, monthly lunch-and-learn meetings, summer lobster bakes prepared by management and much more. Free on-site yoga classes are offered outside on the lawn.
MTD is shut down for one week in the summer, and employees are paid for the time off. Employees receive 13 paid holidays per year, 10 vacation days, 10 sick days and three personal days after one year of employment.
To commemorate their years of service, employees receive gift cards and bonus paid time off.
Both full-time and part-time employees are able to enroll in health care benefits. A la carte options can be added to individual plans. MTD employees also receive a $300 gift card from the company's health insurance company when they receive a "clean bill of health" from their doctor after receiving an annual physical.
The company, which specializes in ultraprecise and ultrasmall injection molded components for the medical device industry, has an environment of passion, hard work and innovation, which were instilled by its president, Dennis Tully, who died in February 2019. Tully grew the company from a $1.9 million business in 2008 to $8.8 million in 2019, according to MTD's Best Places to Work questionnaire.
"Thanks to Dennis' leadership, drive, perseverance, planning and passion for problem-solving, the culture will remain unchanged as the employees follow the core values that Dennis established in 2010," the questionnaire stated. Those values, which are posted on MTD's wall, are Be the First, Be the Best, Responsibility, Ever Forward and Teamwork.
MTD Micro Molding was the 2018 Plastics News Processor of the Year and has made the Best Places to Work list twice before (2018 and 2019).
