With health care costs continuously rising, West Michigan Compounding LLC has absorbed the cost and not increased premiums for its employees. It covers a majority share of medical premiums for employees, including 100 percent of dental premiums.
"WMC's objective is to remain competitive and by not increasing premiums. WMC continues to improve financial security for all employees, which positively impacts retention and employee morale," the company said.
As with similar industry companies, recruiting and retaining employees continues to be a challenge. This means an even greater focus on rewards and recognition, including a perfect attendance program with the chance to win a $500 cash prize each month.
"We have also been recognizing every employee's birthday at our all employee meetings with personal cards signed by the leadership team and smaller financial incentives. Additionally, we recognize all company holidays and often we will hand out treats to all employees, bring food trucks, have potlucks and put up décor to showcase WMC spirit," said Ana Popovic, human resources manager. "We believe these initiatives have helped us attract and retain talent while also remaining true to who we are, which is an employee-focused company."
There's also an annual chili cook-off, where employees compete for prizes such as gift cards, engraved spoons and trophies, and a chef's hat. Positive safety practices are recognized with gift cards.
"We are honored to be a Best Place to Work. To us, it means that our employees trust us and they take pride in their work while enjoying the people they work with," Popovic said. "It makes us proud of everyone who's part of the WMC family. Their hard work and dedication have created a culture of care and appreciation, which is ultimately the Best Place to Work for anyone."
