Constar International Inc. made the No. 1 spot in 1991, with estimated sales of $445 million. The company has since been sold at a bankruptcy auction; some assets were bought by Plastipak Packaging Inc. of Plymouth, Mich., our No. 3 firm last year.
In the last 20 years of this ranking, we've noted 144 acquisitions, so there are even more if you count the years before these were electronic records.
