Besana in Brianza, Italy-based blow molding machinery builder Magic MP SpA started a robotics division to support processors wanting to automate packaging production.
Founded in 1959, Magic has been offering all-electric blow molding machines since 1997 and has sold about 1,500 worldwide to companies serving the automotive, food, beverage, medical, personal care and agricultural markets.
The new division, called Magic Robotica, evolved out of continuous investment in research and development to meet a company goal to offer an integrated line of blow molding machines and automation.
"Magic may provide the complete line from making the bottles to the package ready to go," a company news release says.
The division launched with seven models for downstream applications for bagging, spin trimming, external bottle handling and palletizing with plans to expand the product line.
Early adopters have been investing in palletizing and bagging downstream systems, particularly for food applications.
The stand-alone systems can be installed with newly purchased or added to existing blow molding machines.
Magic builds machines with patented all-electric technology for blow molding, extrusion blow molding (EBM) and injection stretch blow molding for single-stage processes.
With the new division, the company can offer, for example, an all-electric blow molding machine that runs 32-ounce containers with the bottle deflashed inside the machine, leak detected and placement on an in-line conveyor to a semi- or fully-automatic palletizing system.
Magic's headquarters is near Monza, Italy, north of Milan. The company's North American base is in Whitmore Lake, Mich.
