Canadian PVC decking and dock manufacturer Tiva Building Products bought a 50,000-square-foot production plant that sits on 36 acres in South Carolina to expand into the United States and add capacity.
Founded in 2016, the privately held and family-run, Mississauga, Ontario-based company had been looking for a U.S. site for years, according to a news release about the property purchase.
Tiva will produce deck boards at the facility, which was previously unoccupied, Mike Kunard, Tiva's national sales manager, said in an email. He declined to say where in South Carolina it is or give any other information.
"This is a meaningful and timely investment for the growth curve of Tiva Building Products as wholesale customers and prospects are asking for increased support to their business in capacity and producing a responsible product mix," Kunard said in the release.
The new plant should be operational in the second half of 2022 following power supply upgrades and "multiple" extrusion line installations.
"We have evaluated U.S. manufacturing facility sites for quite some time and knew even at the start of our business seven years ago it was never a matter of if, but when," CEO Terry Fangrad said in the release. "The facility is perfect for significant capacity of production and inventory while the site will accommodate multiple expansions as the Tiva brand continues to grow in North America."
Tiva Building Products acted as a decking distributor and retailer while investing in plastics research and development to manufacture its own product lines, according to the company's website and LinkedIn page.
The LinkedIn page says Tiva has been in the plastic extrusion industry for more than 20 years, conducting research and development related to PVC decking for 15 years.
The company produces Tivadek PVC boards, which are capped with acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) for heat resistance, color retention and weatherability; Tivadok cellular PVC boards with an ASA cap and a reinforced aluminum core; and Tivacoat, which is a zero-VOC, waterproof elastomeric membrane.
Tivadeks come in 12 colors with a lifetime warranty. The decking is finished and embossed on both sides, making the boards reversible.
