Pawcatuck, Conn. — Pawcatuck-based Davis-Standard LLC, a manufacturer of extrusion and converting machinery, is powering its North American facilities with carbon-free electricity.
The machine builder achieved this milestone by purchasing Green-e certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for its Pawcatuck and Fulton, N.Y., facilities.
RECs guarantee the electricity used in the two locations is generated from renewable sources, such as wind or solar power, further solidifying Davis-Standard's commitment to sustainable energy practices, according to a company news release.
Davis-Standard also has operations near Toronto that use electricity from hydroelectric sources, which further contributes to the company's carbon-free energy usage.
The green energy initiative complements Davis-Standard's existing ISO 14001-certified facilities and its Maillefer brand's EcoVadis Silver Award for showing environmental responsibility across operations, according to Davis-Standard CEO Giovanni Spitale.
"We are incredibly proud to announce that all of our North American facilities are now powered by 100 percent carbon-free electricity," Spitale said. "This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability and underscores our dedication to reducing our environmental impact. By transitioning to renewable energy sources and leveraging green certifications like Green-e and ISO 14001, we are taking proactive steps towards building a more sustainable future for generations to come."
Founded in 1848, Davis-Standard offers product lines to support manufacturing applications for the infrastructure, building and construction, consumer products, medical and packaging markets.
The company also has manufacturing and technical facilities in China, Germany, Finland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
