Saint-Gobain North America is spending $28 million to expand its CertainTeed Siding facility in Williamsport, Md.
The expansion will increase warehouse space and improve production and shipping capacity. The project will increase the availability of the company's siding portfolio in the mid-Atlantic region.
Additions will include training, office areas and warehouse space. CertainTeed will eliminate off-site storage, which will reduce Scope 3 transportation emissions. Saint-Gobain is working towards carbon neutrality by 2050. The project also includes energy-saving LED lighting, high-efficiency dock doors and all-electric HVAC appliances.
Currently, the facility has more than 300 employees and plans to hire at least 50 more with the new expansion.
"By continuing to invest in the capabilities, capacity and additional warehouse space in our Williamsport facility, we reinforce our commitment to the Williamsport community, our colleagues at the site and to providing a best-in-class experience for customers in our largest regional market," Joe Bondi, vice president and general manager of CertainTeed Siding Products Group, said in a news release.
CertainTeed LLC is ranked No. 8 in Plastics News' North American pipe, profile and tubing extruders with estimated $1.1 billion in related sales.
Saint-Gobain has been investing in other North American operations this year including a CertainTeed Gypsum factory in Palatka, Fla., and a CertainTeed Corners facility in Social Circle, Ga.
