Creatively Designed Products LLC, a manufacturer and distributor of housewares and bath products, is auctioning nearly 1,000 injection tools and 30 injection molding machines as a result of a change ownership and strategy.
"We needed to get more automated, which is why we decided to divest from our current plant and work with three satellite plants that have more sophisticated and updated equipment, so we can get more efficient," said Chief Operating Officer Robert Weiss.
The company is shifting work to three custom injection molders, all located within a 25-mile radius from the company's corporate office. The company plans to focus more on U.S.-made products. Previously about half of its volume was imported.
"We just decided to right-size the company and exit out of low margin or no margin products, just a simple business decision," Weiss said. "There's a strategy to maybe not focus all of our sales efforts into retail but go through distribution and also explore the hospitality market."
The company dates to 1972, but saw a change in ownership last year when Central Islip, N.Y.-based Creative Bath Products Inc. and M&M Molding Corp. were acquired by Delaware-based Creative Products LLC.
Williston Asset Management is auctioning tooling, injection presses and auxiliary equipment in a three-day event that starts Dec. 12. Creatively Designed Products kept 11 newer machines, all with clamping forces of 300 tons and greater. Those presses have already been moved from Central Islip and are up and running.
"Most of our customers have asked us to move everything that we have in Asia to the Western Hemisphere, whether it be the U.S, Canada or Mexico," Weiss said. "Everyone wants things to be moved here because of the exposure and risk that is involved with Asia."
