Chroma Color Corp.'s acquisition streak has continued with the purchase of J. Meyer & Sons Inc., a maker of color masterbatch concentrates for the medical and pharmaceutical markets.
West Point, Pa.-based J. Meyer traces its history to 1883, when it was founded as a toy importer from Germany. The firm later moved into chemicals production with drying materials for paints and inks and then entered the plastics market in the 1960s.
J. Meyer now makes color concentrates based on a wide range of commodity and engineering resins using both single-screw and twin-screw extruders.
In an Oct. 29 news release, Chroma CEO Shruti Singhal said that his McHenry, Ill.-based firm "is committed to growing our health care business through both organic and inorganic activities."
He added that the acquisition of J. Meyer "further bolsters [Chroma's] strengths in supporting our health care customers that serve applications like medical devices, medical disposables, and pharmaceutical packaging."
Chroma now has made nine acquisitions in the last three years, most recently acquiring Adam, Gates & Co. LLC, a maker of specialty dyes based in Hillsborough, N.J., in August.
Investment firm Arsenal Capital Partners combined Chroma with materials firms Carolina Color, Breen Color Concentrates and Breen's Hudson Color unit in mid-2018.
Chroma supplies specialty color and additive concentrates. Its markets include health care, consumer products, packaging, wire, cable and pharmaceuticals.
