McHenry, Ill. — Chroma Color Corp. has continued its growth through acquisition with a deal to buy Corona, Calif.-based Spectra Color Inc.
Spectra is a maker of colorants and pre-colored resin compounds. It also manufactures a proprietary resin made from linear low density polyethylene, predominantly used in rotational molding, Chroma said in a Dec. 20 news release.
The purchase for an undisclosed price represents the 11th acquisition by McHenry-based Chroma since 2018 and its second in 2024. In May it bought Approved Color LLC.
"The acquisition of Spectra Color underscores our commitment to expanding our geographic reach and enhancing our product offerings to better serve our customers," Chroma CEO Joe Herres said in the release.
Founded in 1976, Spectra supplies thermoplastic compounds, colorants, additives and value-added resins, Chroma noted. It is a supplier to the medical, agriculture and consumer products industries.
Chroma supplies specialty color and additive concentrates. Its markets include health care, consumer products, packaging, wire, cable and pharmaceuticals.
"We are thrilled to join forces with Chroma Color," Spectra CEO Bob Shedd said. "By combining our technological expertise [with Chroma] we can deliver a powerful competitive advantage, enhance performance, and create even greater value for our customers."
